On the 13-15 of January the director of the Association LINPRA Henrikas Mykolaitis participated in the events of engineering industry associations CEEMET and Orgalime: 13, January - the General Assembly of CEEMET, 14, January - the inaugural conference of social dialogue of European engineering industry, and 15, January - Orgalime group meeting for fabricated metal products sector competitiveness study review. Particularly significant was the second event where the European engineering industry employers, that were represented by CEEMET associations and industry trade unions, represented by the European Federation of metalworkers ETF opened a formal social dialogue by establishing the 38th committee of European sectoral social dialogue.
Mr. H. Mykolaitis being elected as a member of that committee, was invited to make a presentation from one of the employers' posts.
The economic situation in Lithuania and the Lithuanian experience in social partnership in engineering industry were presented. Mr. H. Mykolaitis emphasized that the social dialogue on the both, Lithuanian and European level, must focus on the final results - to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector.
Two working committees were established during this conference: first one is the committee of promotion of competitiveness of the sector and the second one is the committee of human resource development.
It remains to wish the success to new initiative activities, as the representatives of the parties debate showed that, although the economic situation of the sector is improving, the year 2010 will still be challenging to whole Europe.
